VA hospital

Due to a facade construction project at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital adjacent to UMB’s campus, disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic are expected on Fayette and Arch streets starting this spring until late 2025.

Starting Monday, May 19, through Monday, May 26, the Arch Street sidewalk outside of the School of Dentistry will be closed while scaffolding is installed. During this time, pedestrian traffic will be diverted at night, starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m.

Once the scaffolding has been installed, the facade project work will begin in earnest, lasting approximately seven months (through November 2025). Please note that these are the expected dates of the impacts, but the exact dates may shift due to unforeseen circumstances. Work will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Arch Street will be closed to public traffic for the duration of the project, with only VA deliveries able to access this street.

During this time, one of the two bike racks outside the School of Dentistry entrance at the corner of Arch and Baltimore streets will not be usable. If you are in need of a place to lock your bike, please visit the UMB Campus Green Map and use the "Bike Parking" filter to find other options nearby.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact Alona Green, VA healthcare engineer at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.
